Joy Island sits forty minutes off Velana by speedboat — a butterfly-shaped island in North Malé Atoll, nine hectares of wide white sand with a turquoise lagoon on one side and a house reef on the other. It is the lighter, livelier register of the Cocoon Collection (alongside Cocoon Maldives and You & Me) — colour-led design, an open-air market restaurant at the centre, an Italian pizzeria by the pool, a fine-dining pavilion at the island tip, and a daytime kids club called Kiddie Cove. One-hundred-and-fifty-one rooms across nine categories — beach villas on the sunrise line, suites and pool suites on the sunset line, over-water villas, suites and pool suites on the lagoon, and a pair of larger residences for the family party. A good fit for the easy all-inclusive week — families, multi-generational groups, and couples who want the colour and noise of a busier island.
Arrival. 40-minute speedboat from Velana International. We time the transfer to your flight, and confirm it in writing with the rest of the stay.

The main room — open-air, market-style stalls, a different daily theme. The pacemaker of the all-inclusive week.
A poolside pizzeria — the classics held simply, tropical colour through the open sides.
At the tip of the island — paella at lunch, a quieter fine-dining register under the stars at night.
Beyond the villa
What Joy Island does well, with its own schedules and menus where it publishes them. Open one to read it.
One swim from the beach, with a PADI dive centre running daily excursions — the butterfly island's best habit.
The open-air market room at the island's centre — the social engine of the all-inclusive day, with Il Basilico's pizzeria beside the pool.
The younger guests' own register — alongside paddle and tennis courts for the family's competitive hour.
Balinese-leaning therapies — hot stone, aromatherapy, the couples' room — pitched at the easy all-inclusive week rather than the retreat register.
A butterfly-shaped island gives an occasion two shoulders — sunrise on one, sunset on the other. The colour-led register suits the family celebration that wants joy rather than hush.
The eastern wing takes the dawn; the reef is a swim away before breakfast.
Daily excursions from the PADI centre — or the courts for the family match.
Hot stones while the children hold Kiddie Cove.
The western wing takes the dusk; The Market takes everyone after.
Location
The working surf island of the atoll — a local-register counterpoint to the all-inclusive week.
Small, close, and entirely apart — the country at its own pace.
If Joy Island appeals
Bright island, all hands open — seven minutes from the runway.
The eco-led Kaimoo retreat — coral propagation, glass-bottled water, a barefoot register.
A modern island, drawn in clean line and quiet colour.
