Maldives local islands

What kind of Maldives are you looking for?

The inhabited islands are the Maldives’ lived-in side — small guesthouses, village life and some of the country’s best water, a boat ride from the resorts. Tell us what you love; we suggest the island and run the journey end to end.

The standard

How an island journey is run.

At a resort, avé arranges the stay and the resort hosts you. On the islands, avé operates the journey itself — rooms, boats, guides and transfers on one price. These are the six standards it runs to.

  • Vetted houses & operators

Every guesthouse, guide and boat is one we have used or inspected. We operate nothing we would not put our own guests on.

  • A guide who is yours

Not a group tour — your own host on the island, who knows the families, the captains and the reef, and keeps the day to your pace.

  • Rooms to a standard

En-suite, air-conditioned, the board you chose — the room secured in your name before you fly, never left to chance on arrival.

  • Transport, handled

Speedboat, ferry or domestic flight, aligned to your arrival window. The connections are ours to arrange, not yours to chase on the dock.

  • Safety, not left to luck

A local contact through the journey, an emergency line, and the standards we hold every operator to — on the water and off it.

  • One price, one payment

A single, clear price and one payment for the whole journey — not a dozen guesthouse bookings settled in cash on arrival.

How we work

Questions

Island journeys, in practice.

Everything between the airport and the goodbye: private transfers, rooms at guesthouses we know by name, the day's excursions and dives, and tables booked ahead — one conversation and one bill. You choose the island and the shape of the days; we arrange the rest.

Inhabited-island life carries a different shape: a working harbour at dawn, a village shutter at midday, the call to prayer at dusk. We bring the same care to the room and the boat — the difference is the island itself. And where we arrange a resort stay, an island journey is operated by avé end to end.

Yes, and we often suggest it. A short opening at a quieter island gives the resort week a deeper sense of place. We arrange the move between them privately, so the change of pace is gentle rather than abrupt.

Yes. The accommodation is family-run and small, but everything around it — boats, lunches on a sandbar, dive briefings, a long supper at a private home — is arranged privately by avé. The island is shared; the day is yours.

Shoulders and knees covered through the village itself; swimwear at the designated beach, on private boats, and on the lagoons. Most islands keep one end as the designated beach; we will mark the line for you on arrival.

Not on the inhabited islands themselves — the Maldives is a dry country outside of resorts and licensed liveaboards. avé can arrange floating-bar evenings on a private dhoni for parties who would like a glass of wine with supper.
