Maldives whale shark & diving itinerary
The Ocean Explorer
Whale sharks in South Ari, then the jetty and channels of Vaavu. About 7–8 nights.
Dhigurah lies inside the South Ari Marine Protected Area, one of the few places where whale sharks are seen all year; the morning boats need no certification. Then Fulidhoo in Vaavu, where nurse sharks and rays gather by the jetty most evenings and experienced divers have the Vaavu channels within reach.
- Designed for
- Snorkellers and divers who plan the trip around what is in the water — whale sharks, mantas, nurse sharks and the channels.
- How long
- About 7–8 nights
- The islands
- Dhigurah → Fulidhoo

The Dhigurah guideWhat the days are for
Two whale-shark mornings, a dive day or the manta stations in season, the long beach.
What the days are for
The jetty at dusk, the channels if you dive, the sandbar at low tide.
Change it, and good to know
Certified divers can swap Fulidhoo for Thinadhoo, a dive-led island on the same Vaavu channels, or add Fuvahmulah’s tiger sharks — a domestic flight south.
- Good to know
- Whale sharks are wild: they are found on most mornings, never on every one.
- Good to know
- Mantas around Dhigurah are seen mostly from May to November. The move between South Ari and Vaavu is planned once your dates are known.
